Seminar and Workshop on Utilization of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Terahertz Time Domain Spectroscopy (THz-TDS)

On December 19, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Duangmanee Wongratanaphisan, Head of the Hub of Talents for Particle Accelerators and Director of the Thailand Center of Excellence in Physics, gave a welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the Seminar and Workshop on Utilization of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Terahertz Time Domain Spectroscopy (THz-TDS) at Meeting Room 1, Physics Building 2, Department of Physics and Materials Science, Faculty of Science, Chiang Mai University. The objective of the training is to train the use of FTIR Spectroscopy and THz-TDS experimental stations to create a user consortium, promote the application of advanced research tools to strengthen the research ecosystem and apply leading-edge and advanced research in various fields, such as industry, agriculture, medicine, and materials science improvement and analysis, which is consistent with the mission of the Hub to develop personnel with expertise, create networks between academics, researchers, and research institutions, which will help promote project implementation and cooperation in research development. The workshop consisted of lectures on the following topics:

1. “Measurement, analysis, testing and experimental equipment services at the Electron Linac Laboratory (PBP-CMU Electron Linac Laboratory)”
By Asst. Prof. Dr. Sakhorn Rimjaem Project Leader of Infrared and Terahertz Free Electron Laser Laboratory to strengthen the leading research ecosystem in Thailand

2. “Application of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR spectroscopy)”
By Mr. Panat Nanthanasit

3. “Application of Terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS)”
By Mr. Nuttawat Khammata

In addition, there was a visit and introduction to the Electron Linac Laboratory, with Assistant Professor Dr. Sakhorn Rimjaem and Assistant Professor Dr. jatuporn Saisud as speakers, and a workshop activity with introduction of techniques and demonstration of the use of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR spectroscopy su vertex 80v) and Terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS), sample preparation process, and demonstration of sample measurements from participants.

The event was held on December 19-20, 2024 at the Department of Physics and Materials Science, Faculty of Science, Chiang Mai University, in collaboration with the Hub of Talents for Particle accelerators, the Thailand Center of Excellence in Physics, the Development Project of Infrared Free Electron Laser and Femtosecond Laser Experiment Stations to Enhance Future Science and Technology Research, the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center, and Chiang Mai University, with more than 50 participants from various agencies nationwide.
